I hate feeling like I need to reply to my guestbook, back then did anyone reply to their guestbooks? Maybe they did. I think it's that leftover clearnet idea of 'if you don't reply to them you are immediately ignoring them and therefor a horrible person. But I'm already not a very social person, I put on a mask and try to be, but in the end it drains me more than anything. It's why if I were to use communication I do much prefer email-to-email. It is slower, gives me time to think over my reply, instead of feeling like I am timed and needing to reply ASAP. And i'm not saying people should not reply to their guestbook comments. But me personally? I'm trying to break that whole 'Oh i NEED to reply to them NOW'. I hate how the web has caused us all, or at least me, to have such a warped vision of communication, of satisfaction. I love neocities, but I much prefer getting your own site counter because even then the view statistics are very much not real. If it were so, my view counter would be close to 6k like it says on my 'analytics' page. And who cares about analytics anyway? If you are making your site for yourself, if you are doing what you want, not giving a shit about how anyone else views you. It doesn't matter in the long run, genuinely.

Going onto the indie web, or at least away from the clearweb and all the social norms that have been forced onto us over the recent years, can help a person unlearn all of that if they truly decide to let it all go. But we as humans like that instant gratification, and it's how so many of us end up in such depressing ruts. It's how we lock ourselves away from society. Least that is my experience.
